Avian influenza

When the government of India reported the presence of avian influenza in poultry in some states in late February, World Vision India immediately put into action World Vision’s international avian influenza response plan.

“We are closely working with the government health departments, WHO and FAO and are also in constant touch with World Vision’s Asia Pacific Regional Health Advisor,” said Dr Vijay Edward, Director of Health, World Vision India.

Area Development Programme staff are working with veterinary and health personnel to monitor the situation at local level and raise community awareness. Staff maintain regular contact with sponsored children and families. Any concerns are immediately reported and dealt with.

At the time of writing, avian influenza has not been reported within any of the World Vision New Zealand Area Development Programmes.
