These are some of Banswara ADP’s achievements since October 2002:

Children at a camp organised by Banswara ADP.
  • Ran 23 non-formal schools in collaboration with the Lok Jumbish literacy project. The schools have more than 1000 children enrolled. Non-formal education is for children who have dropped out of government schools or who live too far away to attend, and for children who must work.
  • Installed 10 hand pump wells in 10 villages, each serving 10-15 families. The families contributed cash towards the cost of the wells and have taken responsibility for pump maintenance.
  • Built wells in two villages, which provide drinking water and water for irrigation for more than 200 families.
  • Organised a public event to mark World AIDS Day, attended by 3000 people. The event raised awareness of the disease and its prevention.
  • Taught 250 teenage girls about sexual and psychological development, pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS.
  • Provided school uniforms to 1425 children.
  • Built toilet facilities at one primary school.
  • Distributed 200 food packs to especially needy families. The packs contained enough wheat, lentils, rice and cooking oil to last four months.
  • Organised ‘veterinary camps’ (mobile clinics) in 18 villages. Although livestock, especially cattle, are an important income source and investment in Banswara, few farmers understand the importance of vaccination for animal health. The clinics were an opportunity for farmers to have their animals vaccinated or treated.
  • Distributed 4000 crossbred chickens to 845 families. The crossbreeds have 40-50 per cent higher egg production than local varieties. They also have better survival rates.
  • Distributed saplings to 3000 families. Trees help reduce soil erosion and are a source of future income.
  • Organised a five-day holiday camp for 130 children.
